My Early Bird is not getting the worm...

...she's getting a crabby mama! Sweet Maria has been waking up between 5:00 and 5:30 sporadically for the last month or so. But today it was 4:45 A.M. We let her fuss for a while but she has a hard time going back to sleep because she can hear Charles getting ready for work at 5:15 and after... She's awake and ready to go! WHAT?!?! Last night she went to bed at about 8:00, so this is just short of 9 hours of sleep, for a kid who usually prefers 10-11+ hours... I'm at my wits end on this one. It's 7:30 in the morning and she's already down for a nap- been down since 7:00. I know this is a 'continuation of night sleep' nap, but I have NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. And with daylight savings time coming up, she will be waking REALLY early... what should I do? I'm begging for advice from any mom out there who can spare a moment. Comment or email me. HELP!

Um, I'm guessing hearing, "It's just a phase." doesn't sound too helpful. Alex went through this for a while although he was a little younger. I think he was about 13-15 months. He was really down in weight at that time, so I think he was waking from hunger. So I nursed him and he'd go back to sleep until about 7. I'm sure a parenting book would have a problem with that, but it gave us 2 extra hours of sleep per night, so I'd take that trade off again! Could you try some type of snack or water cup? Maybe a lullabye music cd? Room darkening window covering? White noise? Good luck! Jenny

hey shlish!
amy sue here. joel went thru a similar thing, too. it lasted about a month, then he 'got tired' of it and is now back to a normal routine. it is hard with someone else up in the morning - they don't get it! can he get a new job. this is serious! anyways, all i can advise is let her cry it out. i know, i'm awful and on my third child... at least you have no other kids to worry about waking up yet. she is obviously tired if she's snoozing at 7:30. lil' turkey. she just wants to be sure that you know that she's in charge!! good luck.
this, too, will pass.
love,
amy sue

Yep, Amy Sue, we definitely know who's in charge around here! But then again, she's so darn CUTE that we can't help but give in sometimes... I'll admit I can be a weak link, but I'm finding out that I pay for these slips in the long run, so I feel myself buckling down a little more... yesterday was the worst, so hopefully it will only get better from here.
